'I just try to stay in the moment': Alexander Isak will not entertain talk of toppling Alan Shearer from top of Newcastle United's record books

Alan Shearer will take some catching as Newcastle United's all-time top scorer but if anyone is capable of it, it's Alexander Isak.

Newcastle's prolific striker has wiped Shearer's name from a few records already but still has a long way to go to reach the Geordie hero's all-time goals total.

Isak has managed two things that Shearer wasn't able to do by lifting a trophy with Newcastle, and in midweek, he became the first-ever Newcastle player to hit 20 Premier League goals in back-to-back seasons.

When it comes to beating Shearer's 148 Premier League goals total for Newcastle, Isak will not entertain the idea yet.

Of course, we'd have to keep the Swede at the club for a few more years for him to stand a chance, which may be easier said than done. But regardless of how long he stays at Newcastle, Isak's focus is always on the immediate future as he told The Chronicle.

"I think it is a bit disrespectful to him to talk about that. It is so far away. I think my goalscoring record has been good so far. But I don't really look too far forward.

"I just try to stay in the moment. That has always been the best way for me to keep my form. That's what will keep me scoring."

Alexander Isak's scoring record for Newcastle could see him overtake the legend

Isak has 57 Premier League goals, which leaves 97 goals to go before he reaches 148 in the Premier League which is what Shearer's record stands at.

If he reaches that milestone, then he'd be well on his way to reaching 206 goals in all competitions to match Shearer.

Just a few more seasons at the club in the same form he's in now and we could have a new record holder. But, let's all be like Isak and just focus on what's in front of us. That's what's more important.
