Ross Wilson hints at Newcastle United holding strong interest in re-signing Elliot Anderson with five-word message
While I don't like going on the same way the Italian media does about Sandro Tonali, the idea of Newcastle United bringing Elliot Anderson back home is too intriguing a story to ignore.
Newcastle were forced to sell Anderson to Nottingham Forest to ensure compliance with PSR. Nobody at the club wanted him to leave, and Anderson himself didn't want to go.
The move has worked out exceptionally well for Anderson, however, who is one of the first names on the team sheet at Forest and is now a regular feature in Thomas Tuchel's England squad.
We still say that his rise would not have been as rapid had he stayed at Newcastle, as he wouldn't have broken into our midfield as easily as he did at Nottingham Forest.
Ross Wilson doesn't rule out a move for Elliot Anderson
Ever since Anderson started hitting the heights he has, there have been many questions asked of Eddie Howe about Anderson and whether he'd bring him back to Tyneside, and in what's an unusual stance for Howe, he's not openly ruled it out, or even dodged the question, giving journalists plenty to write about and fans a lot of hope that a move could happen.
Now the same question has been asked of Newcastle's new sporting director, Ross Wilson, who was, of course, involved in the deal to take Anderson to Forest before he joined Newcastle. When asked about his thoughts on Anderson and a return to Newcastle, Wilson gave a very open answer to The Chronicle:
"I like him a lot."
Elliot Anderson has been valued at £100 million
That's obviously not a straight up admission of an interest, but it leaves the door wide open for a potential move.
However, Anderson is now highly sought after and Nottingham Forest know what a player they have on their hands, so the fight will be fierce and the winning bid will need to be very large.
Figures of £100 million have already been floated as what it would take to prise him away from The City Ground and we don't see Newcastle getting involved in that kind of deal yet. In fairness to Forest, it may be a year or two before they sell, anyway, it's not like they're under pressure to do so yet.
