Yoane Wissa drops massive hint over Newcastle United debut ahead of Burnley clash this afternoon
Newcastle United are getting ready to face Burnley at St James' Park this afternoon in a traditional 3pm non-televised kick-off.
A lot of focus heading into this game has been on Newcastle's £55 million summer signing, who is yet to make a first-team appearance for his new club.
Yoane Wissa was desperate to move to Newcastle this summer, and just days after getting his wish, he picked up a PCL injury while on international duty with DR Congo and hasn't been fit to feature for Newcastle since.
After several false dawns, it now looks like Wissa is close to making his debut for Newcastle, three months after signing on the dotted line.
Eddie Howe hinted that Yoane Wissa would be involved for Newcastle today
When asked on Friday during his press conference if Wissa would be involved, Eddie Howe seemed quite positive.
“He’s looked good. I think we’ve seen all the qualities we saw at Brentford – his movement is very good, he’s quick, he’s sharp, he’s got that low centre of gravity. I think already you can see he’ll build good relationships with the players around him.
“I’ve been really happy with what he’s done. Is he at 100 per cent his best physical condition? Probably not.
“But I think that will take some time, it’s similar with other players that come back from injury, you’ve seen Lewis Hall going down with cramp towards the end of games. Ideally with Lewis, we’d probably have had longer to build him up, but we don’t have that luxury.
“With so many games, we need the squad fit and ready, and hopefully Yoane will have a big part to play.”
Today looks like the day
Many have speculated that Wissa will be on the bench at St James' Park today for the first time, and the 29-year-old has dropped the biggest hint yet that this will be the case.
On his Instagram story, Wissa posted one of his promo shots from when he signed, showing him holding a clapper board with the caption 'Story'.
Could this be him saying that his story begins today? We think so. We'll know for sure in a couple of hours.
