Newcastle United representatives spotted in Portugal as scouts run rule over 21-year-old Spain striker
Newcastle United certainly like to take their time when scouting potential new signings before making an actual move.
So often we'll get reports that Newcastle are interested in a player and then it will go quiet for months, then suddenly scouts are spotted casting their eyes over that player again.
Newcastle have a long-standing interest in Spain international Samu Agehowa, who plays for FC Porto in Portugal.
The 21-year-old striker was on the list of potential targets in the summer before an injury ended Newcastle's interest.
Newcastle have been looking at Samu Ahehowa again
Portuguese outlet A Bola has now reported that Newcastle's scouts have been back in Portugal to watch over Agehowa again, who won and scored a penalty for his side in front of the Toon representatives on Thursday as Porto beat Nice 3-0 in the Europa League.
Another former Newcastle target, Gabri Veiga, was the star of the show, however, scoring twice for the Portuguese side.
Samu Agehowa has a £87 million release clause, but reports have suggested Newcastle are weighing up something closer to a £57 million package for the striker, who has 10 goals in 16 games this season.
Samu Agehowa is a good player, but we don't see Newcastle making a move in the near future
With Nick Woltemade scoring regularly, Yoane Wissa on the cusp of making his debut and the failure to move Will Osula on transfer deadline day, we're not sure Newcastle are shopping for a new striker right now.
If they are looking to buy a new centre-forward, it could spell the end for Osula at the Toon, which would be a shame as we've seen a marked improvement this season before his injury.
Not that we think having four strikers is necessarily a bad idea, especially if we move to try and play Woltemade and Wissa together as our primary attack force. That doubles the risk of losing a striker to injury, so having two in reserve just makes sense to us.
