There's very little doubt that Newcastle United currently has one of the best midfields in the Premier League when the first-choice trio are available for selection.

Many pundits have gone as a far as to suggest that when Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton are playing together there is in fact no better midfield in the country.

We may be biased here, but we absolutely agree. That trio bossed the game against Liverpool at Wembley and dictated the flow of the game swinging it heavily in Newcastle's favour.

But would Eddie Howe agree? Finally, somebody has asked the question.

The best of the best

Eddie Howe refused to give a definitive answer when asked if his midfield is one of the best in the Premier League

In his pre-match press conference on Friday morning, Eddie Howe was asked if he thinks he has the best midfield in the Premier League. However, in true Eddie Howe style, he managed to answer the question without actually answering the question (h/t The Chronicle).

"It's difficult for me to give a definitive answer but just looking at those individual players, they all bring something different and when you talk about balance, that's what you want. You want the creativity that Bruno can bring us, the good decision-making that Sandro brings us and Joelinton's physical presence. Add that together and you've got a little bit of everything.

"Although you can think that before bringing them together, sometimes, you can't measure the chemistry. Chemistry is just as important. That's why you see some players play better with others and sometimes there's no logic behind it. It just happens because the players express themselves in that way together. They are getting there. With every game, maybe, the understanding of each other gets better and stronger."

Eddie Howe is talking as if his midfield can get even better

That was probably about as close as we're going to get to Eddie Howe saying 'yes', but you can tell that he definitely feels like he's got a great group of lads running the show from the middle of the park.

It also suggests that he thinks he can get even more out of them, which should send shivers down the spines of the other Premier League managers.

Each member of the trio has their strengths and weaknesses for sure, but as Eddie Howe says, it's all about balance and all three seem to know what each other is capable of and where they need help, and they can rotate around the park to make a difference.

In summary: We have the best midfield in the Premier League.
