Leeds United eye £10m Newcastle United man as summer target regardless of promotion chase outcome

Daniel Farke's Leeds United appear to be bottling the Championship title race at the wrong time with the German forced to make a drastic decision this weekend.

Farke called upon former Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow to stand between the sticks as they took on Luton Town on Saturday after a string of errors by first-choice Illan Meslier.

Despite the change, it couldn't inspire Leeds to another win, drawing 1-1 with the Hatters leaving them two points from the top of the table.

As such, it's now being reported that Farke has lost all confidence in his goalkeeping options and is starting to look for a solution.

Leeds United want Nick Pope to solve their goalkeeper problems

According to The Sun, Leeds haven't learned their lesson from buying 'keepers from Newcastle and could launch a bid to land Nick Pope this summer, regardless of whether or not they secure promotion.

Nick Pope joined the Magpies from Burnley for £10 million in 2022 and has, for the most part, been a top 'keeper, but he's not without his flaws, namely his footwork and distribution along with his injury record.

Eddie Howe is looking at new 'keeper options too which could leave the door open for Pope to move on.

Leeds are also looking at Newcastle target James Trafford

Newcastle had reportedly already agreed a move for Burnley's James Trafford this summer, but subsequent reports have since suggested that those rumours were very premature.

Indeed, Leeds United are also tracking the Burnley stopper as another potential option, but if anything is likely to happen in this triangle, it's that we get Trafford and Leeds get Pope.

There's definitely going to be plenty of movement in Newcastle's goalkeeper department this summer, but we're not sure Nick Pope leaving is one of them. But anything can happen.
