Eddie Howe names two players who have 'possibility' to be involved against Man City in double injury boost
Newcastle United take on Manchester City at St James' Park on Tuesday night, live on Sky Sports and ITV, kick-off is at 8 pm in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.
After playing 120 minutes plus penalties on Saturday as Newcastle scraped into the draw for the fourth round of the FA Cup, Eddie Howe is going to have to seriously think about which players are likely to be able to go again on Tuesday.
Howe tried to rest players on Saturday but ended up having to bring on the big guns later in the game, so nobody really got fully rested.
Additionally, Newcastle also lost Tino Livramento to injury, but Howe has confirmed this morning that he has a couple of players back in contention for tomorrow.
Eddie Howe is close to welcoming back Anthony Elanga and Jacob Murphy
Speaking to the media on Tuesday morning, Eddie Howe spoke about the huge contribution Harvey Barnes has made over the last couple of games while praising Anthony Gordon's contribution off the bench on Saturday, but then went on to add that Anthony Elanga and Jacob Murphy could be back in the frame to face Manchester City.
"Harvey is in great form. He is red hot in front of goal. Really pleased with Anthony's contribution, too. It was his cross for Harvey's header and his pass for Sandro Tonali to win the penalty. With Jacob Murphy and Anthony Elanga close to returning we will hopefully be back at full firepower very soon.
"The two wingers have a possibility. Dan [Burn] will be a couple of weeks further back."
Barnes will tear you apart ... again?
Harvey Barnes was Newcastle's hero late on in the last two games and is surely heading for burnout, but how can you drop him when he's in such scintillating form?
Barnes is now Newcastle's outright leading goalscorer after hitting double figures on Saturday, and has consistently been our biggest goal threat this season.
Can we afford to rest him and reinstate hit-or-miss Jacob Murphy or struggling Anthony Elanga? We're not so sure.
