For a while now, Newcastle United have been reported as having a strong interest in Palmeiras winger Allan, and it now looks as though they are stepping up their game.

According to ESPN Brazil (via Sport Witness), Newcastle have sent representatives to take a closer look at the 21-year-old right winger with a view to opening talks.

It all sounds very far away from anything actually happening, but at least Newcastle are making the right moves and making them early, if indeed this report is true.

Newcastle were linked to Allan last year and it seems that they remain keen on the young Brazilian.

Newcastle will have plenty of competition for Allan's signature

The Magpies aren't the only interested party. Napoli have already had an approach rejected by Palmeiras, and it's also been reported that Liverpool have tried to secure a priority agreement.

Allan is clearly attracting a lot of interest, and while Palmeiras are holding strong, it's starting to look like a question of when they break, not if.

Newcastle are certainly going to find it difficult to compete with the likes of Napoli and Liverpool, but if they can lay the foundations ahead of the window, they might be able to convince the youngster his future is better served at Newcastle.

Newcastle could probably do with another right winger, as the last one we bought is defective

Allan has two goals from four games in the Brazilian Serie A already this season, to go with his one in 11 games in the Campeonato Paulista.

It's expected that Allan could cost around £35 million, which, after spending £55 million on Anthony Elanga, feels like a bargain right now.

This could be one to keep a close eye on over the summer as Newcastle look to rebuild the squad for next season.
