Eddie Howe decided to give Lewis Miley a 'breather' on Sunday after the 19-year-old had a decent run in the starting XI for Newcastle United.

The young midfielder had been drafted in as a makeshift right-back due to the injuries to Kieran Trippier and Tino Livramento, even migrating to centre-back in one game, which saw him cover three different positions.

Kieran Trippier was reinstated to the lineup for Newcastle on Sunday and came through 90 minutes unscathed, albeit off the back of a terrible performance that saw the former England full-back make a glut of mistakes with poor passing. He wasn't alone in this, though.

Lewis Miley did make an appearance, coming on to replace Sandro Tonali on 67 minutes after the Italian had one of his worst games in a black and white shirt.

What is going on with Sandro?

Eddie Howe isn't sure what position Lewis Miley will end up playing next

Miley didn't transform the game or anything, but he was a marked improvement on Tonali, which brought up the question after the game, what happens with Lewis Miley now? The Chronicle asked if he's set to continue as a right-back or if he'll be back to his regular position in midfield.

"I don't know what happens from this point onwards.

"I thought it was a good time to just give Lewy a little breather. He has played a lot of games in a short period of time.

"Also to let Kieran play. He is still a very good attacking full-back and it was good to see him play 90 minutes. I thought Lewy did really well when he came on in midfield. It was just good to have Lewy available and so versatile in various positions."

Lewis Miley: 19 years old and more reliable than anyone else in the squad

If Sandro needs some time out of the team to get his head on straight, then Lewis Miley is the natural replacement for him, but we thought Trippier was so poor on Sunday that we'd also rather have Miley in as right-back.

He needs to replace one of them when we take on PSV on Wednesday night in the Champions League.

In the meantime, Sandro needs to hire a nanny or something because if it's Leonardo keeping him up all night that is messing up his game, he needs to do something about it.
