Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are reportedly locked in discussions over the potential transfer of England centre-back Marc Guehi.

On Friday news broke that Newcastle had made an approach to Crystal Palace over the availability of Marc Guehi and since then the story has moved with pace.

We've seen a few reports suggesting that a deal is close, but they have come from less than reputable sources.

Keith Downie yesterday made sure fans were aware that a fee has not yet been agreed.

If you needed any further evidence that a move is not close in the sense that Guehi has his bags packed and ready to go, the Crystal Palace X page posted an image of the England star returning to training.

We can but hope he's not there for long. Maybe just a training session today and then saying his goodbyes before heading northbound for his Newcastle medical.

There is hope that the transfer could be concluded by the weekend, which would be fantastic, especially if we can unveil him during the Sela Weekender.

Even if he is a Newcastle player by the weekend, it doesn't give him much time to train with his new squad ahead of the season, so it's likely the best we can hope for in the game against Southampton is a cameo from off the bench.

The same is likely to be said for Will Osula, although we only expect we'll see him make an appearance if Newcastle are comfortably ahead, or desperately chasing a goal, if we're only 1-0 up we doubt we'll see him make his debut.

We just need some definitive movement on a right winger now and if we can get someone in for that position, then we could call this a pretty successful transfer window despite all the frustration. It'll not be perfect, though, as we're still clinging on to players we'd much rather not have on the books, but there's still time.
