Alan Shearer has been speaking about the rumours regarding Newcastle United letting go of one of their star players to a Premier League rival.

Chelsea have been linked with a record-breaking move for Alexander Isak this summer, and regardless of how much truth there is in those rumours, they have gained traction and have become a talking point for many.

Newcastle fans are fairly confident, like they were when it came to Bruno Guimaraes, that Isak will not be moving clubs this summer, but there is a dark cloud of negativity over the club right now thanks to all these rumours of the club selling players to comply with PSR.

So nerves are a tad frayed and because of that Alan Shearer has been asked his thoughts on the Isak links.

Shearer certainly wouldn't be happy if Newcastle let Isak go

Like most fans, Shearer doesn't believe Isak will leave Newcastle this summer, and seems even more certain that he wouldn't be leaving for Chelsea if he did leave but he didn't hold back how he'd feel if it did happen when talking to Betfair via @Blue_footy on X.

“I’m not that worried. I don’t think he’ll leave. I don’t think it can happen. Newcastle supporters would go mad if it happened. What he’s brought to Newcastle and how good a player he is, I’m not sure Chelsea could afford him either.

I’ve seen the reports and I don’t think there’s anything in that at all. I’d be amazed, angry and disappointed if he left Newcastle.”

Newcastle seem to be toying with the Premier League

"Amazed, angry and disappointed" is probably the polite way of describing how he, and indeed all Newcastle fans would feel should Newcastle succumb to Chelsea's wiles.

It's already bad enough that there are talks that Liverpool and Newcastle have discussed the prospect of Anthony Gordon making the switch - for the record, we don't feel there is any truth to that whatsoever. When you look at how hard the club fought to bring Gordon in and then how much he's developed in such a short space of time, they're not going to let him go now.

There are smokescreens going up left, right and centre at the moment and a lot of it seems to be to highlight the ridiculousness of PSR, much like the club did in January which eventually led to a review of the rules, it feels like they're doing it again to potentially move those talks further down the line in order to get PSR scrapped.

The silence from the club right now is deafening, and that's uncharacteristic of this ownership, so it suggests they are playing a game against the Premier League and keeping quiet as to not give the game away. It's something we've been thinking but it seems that we aren't alone with Luke Edwards saying something similar today on X.
