On Tuesday evening Newcastle United announced that they had signed a striker.

While it's a good move, it's not the striker we need right now, obviously as the transfer window is closed, but it is a player that the club managed to sign ahead of some big Premier League sides.

In September we reported that the club had agreed terms with 17-year-old Vakhtang Salia, the young Georgian who has been tipped to be the next Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Now the deal has been done and all the terms have been made public via Newcastle's official site.

Vakhtang Salia will join Newcastle on his 18th birthday next year

Newcastle will have to wait to get their first sight of Vakhtang Salia

While Newcastle are currently screaming out for some firepower this season, Salia is very much a player for the future.

Indeed, he won't even join up with Newcastle United until the summer as he sees out the rest of the season with Dinamo Tblisi.

He will actually join Newcastle on his 18th birthday in August.

Salia has represented Georgia at U17, U19 and U21 level so far and is being regarded as the future for the national team. He's already made himself a regular feature in the Dinamo Tblisi first team scoring five goals in 24 outings.

Paul Mitchell praised his scouting team

Speaking to the official site, Paul Mitchell praised his scouting team for getting Salia signed ahead of other top clubs.

"We're delighted to get ahead of a number of other top clubs to sign Vakhtang.

"Scouting and recruiting emerging talent is an essential part of building a sustainable future, particularly within the current PSR framework, so the market is fiercely competitive.

"We continue to scout extensively, both domestically and overseas, with a view to securing players who can come through our talent pathway and, ideally, become part of the first team in future.

"We look forward to working with Vakhtang and wish him every success during his remaining time with Dinamo Tbilisi."
