Seriously, at this point what can Newcastle United even do with Callum Wilson?
We had a suspicion that Callum Wilson was going to be ruled out of the game against Chelsea after he wasn't shown in the training gallery, and now it seems that our gut feeling was right.
Craig Hope, always the bearer of glad tidings, has posted on X tonight that Wilson is in fact set to miss the trip to Stamford Bridge after another fitness setback.
It's really hard to not get mightily cheesed off when this keeps happening - we know he's not doing it on purpose and he probably feels worse than anyone, but come on, man, just retire.
Hope explained that Wilson is feeling muscle tightness and is expected to miss the next three games. And we all know that after these three games he'll still not be ready and he'll tack on another one.
If it has taken him this long to recover from an injury then maybe it's just time to call it quits. That might sound like an overreaction but how long is he going to last when he does return?
Newcastle have had to make do without him all season so far, so will he really be missed in terms of his availability for the side?
I've always been a big fan of Callum Wilson, I think he's a phenomenal striker, but his injury record is becoming indefensible now.
We have to wonder if Eddie Howe would have sold him in the summer if he hadn't picked up this latest injury - we doubt it, but there's really nothing he can say now that will convince anyone that he's worth keeping around, surely.
Or am I just rage typing hyperbole? I did warn of the fume this morning and, it's not just mine, the replies to Craig Hope's post will tell the story with one fan saying that he should have been sold two years ago and Chris from the Ever More YouTube channel speaking perfect sense.
"His legacy at the club is now starting to erode away imo mate. I don't blame Callum I blame the board & potentially the manager for foolishly sticking by a player who despite his abilities is barely available in any given season. Dreadful by all at #NUFC utterly dreadful!"
