Chelsea can't seem to differentiate between fantasy football and reality as the London club have reportedly approached Newcastle United over one of their top players.
Despite having to sell hotels back to themselves to keep their books right, Chelsea are showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to their endless pursuit of buying every football player ever. It's like they're playing Pokemon with footballers.
So far this summer they have appeared as competition for almost every signing Newcastle have tried to make, already beating us to one player, but not content with that, they're now going direct to source.
According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea have made contact with Newcastle over signing striker Alexander Isak.
Already Newcastle's record transfer at £63million, The Daily Mail claims that Chelsea would have to break their record, which currently stands at £115million for Moises Caicedo, to even stand a chance of landing Isak.
The Swedish striker, like Bruno Guimaraes, has openly spoken about being happy at Newcastle and it seems a move away is the furthest thing from his mind, but if Chelsea do come in with a mega-bucks offer, how strong is Newcastle's resolve?
Isak has already established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League, bagging 35 goals already in just two injury-hit seasons, and the idea of losing him, especially to Chelsea, will keep Newcastle fans up at night.
The Blues have plenty of other targets on their radar who would cost a damn sight less than Isak would, so we don't expect that this will be anything to worry about for now, but the more desperate they become, the more crazy they are likely to be come.
Let's be honest, if they come in with something like £130million, we'd actually be mental to turn it down. We'd be doubling our money, we wouldn't have to worry about PSR and could go nuts in the transfer market,
However, looking at the bigger picture: Is it worth it? We'd not be able to replace what he brings to the side, the fact that Chelsea are asking and potentially willing to break the bank shows that there's just nobody else out there like him, so for us, it's a hard pass, even though financially it makes sense. Footballing-wise, we simply must keep hold of him for as long as we can.
