It has been a strange couple of days in transfer land with Newcastle United fielding bids for defensive misfit Lloyd Kelly from two top clubs.
Turkey's Fenerbahce and Italy's Juventus have both made plays for the summer signing who has struggled to carve out a place in the Newcastle squad.
Fan reaction to the news that he is wanted has been to sell him. Having signed on a free in the summer, any transfer fee we receive would go straight into the coffers and would be a huge help in terms of PSR.
Kelly is also rumoured to be on huge wages at Newcastle with Capology stating he is on £150,000-a-week, however, there are many who dispute this, with The Athletic's Chris Waugh being one of them as he has shed some light on Newcastle's thinking behind the possible Kelly transfer.
In his weekly fan Q&A, Waugh has explained that selling Lloyd Kelly was never on the agenda for Newcastle, so when bids started coming in, they weren't quite sure what to do.
The advantages, financially, are clear, but in football terms, Lloyd Kelly brings the average age of our centre-back options down with only him and Sven Botman under the age of 30.
Therefore, it's not simply a case of a cash grab. The pros and cons of letting a player like Kelly go, who can fill two positions, have to be weighed up.
Chris Waugh doesn't believe that the club will sell Kelly this month unless an offer north of £15 million comes in and we can actually see the logic behind that.
Especially if, as Waugh says, the rumours of Kelly being one of the club's highest earners is not true. We have been told that his actual wages are a third of what is being quoted, which is still high for someone who barely plays, but nowhere near as obscene as we first thought.
We'd still sell him, though.
