This week reports came out of Turkey claiming that talks were underway between Newcastle United and Fenerbahce over the sale of Lloyd Kelly.

The former Bournemouth defender only arrived on Tyneside in the summer, and while he's not managed to break his way into the first-team, he's still seen as an important player by Eddie Howe.

Indeed, the Newcastle manager seemed pretty miffed when asked about the situation in his Friday morning press conference, insisting that all the talk was coming from the buyer's side.

The Fenerbahce vice-president said earlier in the week that talks were underway, which is another thing that upset the powers that be at Newcastle and likely killed the deal before it even got going.

Diego Carlos could be on the move to Fenerbahce instead of Lloyd Kelly

Fenerbahce have agreed terms with Aston Villa's Diego Carlos

It seems now, though, that Fenerbahce will not be pursuing their interest in Kelly as they look to be about to land Diego Carlos from Aston Villa.

The 31-year-old's career in the Premier League never got off the ground really, thanks to injuries.

Newcastle were very keen on Carlos before he went to Aston Villa but ultimately moved on and acquired Sven Botman instead, and while the Dutchman has had his fair share of injuries too, he's made a much bigger impact on the Premier League.

The reports are coming from Turkey once again so salt is required

Newcastle World are reporting that the rumours are once again coming from Turkey and are saying that Jose Mourinho's side have already agreed personal terms with Carlos.

It's obviously worth taking with a pinch of salt, given the source, but it does seem as though Fenerbahce have, for now, given up on Lloyd Kelly.

Financially, we still think it would have been a good move to sell Kelly, but we can also understand why Eddie Howe would want to keep him around.
