While we as Newcastle United fans hate the fact that the club has no intentions of doing any incoming business in January, we can also get wound up about the potential business we might do in the summer.

First off, given the source of this story, we have less than 1% confidence that there is any truth in it as things stand. That being said, it is a player whose name does keep popping up, and if he is available for free in the summer then there is a chance Newcastle could be tempted.

We are talking, of course, about Dominic Calvert-Lewin, aka Callum Wilson 2.0, in that he can bag goals for fun, but he'd rather be stretched out on the treatment table wrapped in bandages and high on painkillers. (Hyperbole, not libel, just in case Wilson or DCL's lawyers are reading this).

Eddie Howe has been an admirer of Calvert-Lewin's for a while and every time there's a whiff that DCL could be on his way out of Everton, it's always Newcastle's name that comes up first.

NO!

Now, Football Insider's Peter O'Rourke is saying that Newcastle will make their move for the 27-year-old in the summer when he's expected to leave Goodison Park when his contract expires.

It's a massive, huge, monumental no from us. Injuries aside, this season Calvert-Lewin has made 20 Premier League appearances and scored twice.

Granted, he's playing for Everton who are once again battling against relegation, but Callum Wilson would still score regularly for Newcastle when we were poor.

DCL is far from the player he once promised to be

With all the injuries Calvert-Lewin has had, it has obviously affected him as he's nowhere near the player he once was.

We really hope this is just Peter O'Rourke going for the easy story again and there's no truth to this at all.

There are far better strikers we could be looking at. We may have to pay for them, but far better than having another wage drain. Also, need we remind you that Jonathan David will be available on a free in the summer. If we grab Champions League football this season, we could be right in the mix for his signature.
