After months of speculation and near misses Manchester United have finally sacked Erik Ten Hag, much to the disappointment of every non-Man United fan.

Erik ten Hag was already on shaky ground before INEOS bought into the club and then it was heavily suggested that Sir Jim Ratcliffe would be looking to bring in his own man to lead the team, but he stuck with Ten Hag.

Manchester United then went on to lift the FA Cup which likely saved the Dutchman's job over the summer, but after a worse start to the season than Newcastle, patience has finally run out and it was announced this morning (Monday) that Manchester United had relieved him of his duties.

This isn't the best news for Newcastle United fans as recent rumours had suggested that Eddie Howe would be Ratcliffe's preferred replacement.

Eddie Howe has been linked to the Man United job recently

Some outlets with their 'sources' have even tried to claim that Eddie Howe would be keen on the Man United role, which has never made sense to us given the struggles he had with Dan Ashworth while the pair were at Newcastle - it seems odd that he'd want to go back to working alongside him.

Alan Shearer spoke about the decision on The Rest Is Football calling it a 'bizarre' call by the Man United board.

"Everyone knew that they were talking to managers in the summer, so if they were on the same page, why on earth were they speaking to managers in the summer? So as soon as that came out we all said he was a dead man walking unfortunately. For them then to give him a new contract after that was bizarre really, and then back him with £200 million and then in three and a half, nearly four months they've sacked him. Bizarre."

Shearer said he was joking ... he wasn't

The conversation went on before Shearer was asked if Eddie Howe would be next into the Man United hot seat, and Shearer wasted no time in firing a shot across the bow.

"No, Eddie's at a big club"

He emphasised that he was just joking for the sake of the Man United fans ... he wasn't though, was he? We all know he hates Man United.
