Unless it was his beloved Bournemouth, or maybe even his boyhood club, Everton, we don't believe that there's a job out there that Eddie Howe would consider leaving Newcastle United for right now.

We've already seen Howe distance himself from the England job while that was available, but now reports are suggesting that our favourite person in the world Sir Jim Ratcliffe is eyeing Howe as a replacement should Manchester United sack Erik Ten Hag.

This claim isn't new and has been going around for a few weeks, but a report by Team Talk has suggested that Howe would consider the job if approached.

Okay, so that's not so much of an outrageous claim - of course he'd consider it before turning it down, but the reasons they provide for suggesting this is where the story falls apart for us.

We just don't see Howe and Ashworth working together again

The report suggest that Eddie Howe would want to work with Dan Ashworth again

When Paul Mitchell arrived as sporting director, replacing Dan Ashworth who left to go to Manchester United, there was friction initially, as was to be expected as two people who've never worked together before tried to impose their ideas on one another.

All that has been worked out now after a heavily-scrutinised adjustment period, but the two are getting on with their jobs happily.

However, Team Talk believes that Eddie Howe was still upset over losing Dan Ashworth, claiming that the two had a 'very strong relationship'. You could have fooled us.

Eddie Howe didn't even seem to like Dan Ashworth

You could hear Eddie Howe's jaw clench at the mere mention of Ashworth in press conferences. The two didn't see eye-to-eye <insert joke about Dan Ashworth being tiny here> and it was written all over Howe's face.

They were professional, of course, and were able to work together, but the amount of times Howe said things in press conferences that could easily be read as shots fired suggests that the 'strong relationship' was nothing more than putting on a brave face.

We could be wrong, obviously, we weren't there, but we've always suspected that the two didn't get along. In fact, it all seems to point towards Howe simply not liking the idea of a director of football.

So would he take up a job where he had to work with Dan Ashworth again under a tyrant like Jim Ratcliffe? Nah. We doubt it, and in fairness to Team Talk, so do they.
