Newcastle United can exact revenge for Sunday's defeat tomorrow night by knocking Chelsea out of the Carabao Cup.

As well as Sunday's defeat in the Premier League, Newcastle will be looking to right the wrong which saw them exit the Carabao Cup at the quarter-final stage last season after a late Chelsea goal sent the game to penalties where the London club triumphed.

Speaking to the media this morning (via The Chronicle) Eddie Howe spoke of how the Carabao Cup is an important competition for Newcastle United.

That has been evidenced by making it to the final two seasons ago and the quarter-final last season. A place in the quarter finals is as stake again on Wednesday night.

Eddie Howe says he is 'desperate' to progress tomorrow night

Some may argue (me) that as things stand, getting things right in the league is of higher importance than the cup, but that's not how Eddie Howe is seeing it.

"It has been an important competition for us since we have been here and that has not changed. We will pick a team to win the game. Chelsea are a difficult opponent, I am sure they will make changes, but with those changes they will still be a very strong team. We are desperate to progress."

This suggests that Howe could go with a strong team, although he has already hinted at Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon not being in the starting lineup for different reasons.

Eddie Howe has some big choices to make

The debate rages on in the office over what we expect the lineup to be tomorrow night and Howe is only making things more difficult with his answers in this morning's media briefing.

There's a strong suspicion that we'll see Lewis Miley in action at some point, but whether he starts is a different story.

Will Alexander Isak get the chance to make up for his shocking mistake on Sunday or with Howe go again with Will Osula in the cup?
