Newcastle United are reportedly bracing themselves for a bid from Liverpool for 19-year-old winger Yankuba Minteh.

The Gambia international signed for Newcastle last summer and immediately went out on loan to Feyenoord without so much as visiting Newcastle first.

Minteh went on to have an excellent campaign with the Dutch side under Arne Slot who guided Feyenoord to the KNVB Cup which saw Minteh play and get sent off in the final.

The youngster also represented the Dutch side in the Champions League with one of his 11 goals last season coming in Europe's elite competition.

Arne Slot wants a Minteh reunion

Now that Arne Slot is taking over as head coach of Liverpool, it didn't take long for the rumours to surface that he would look to be reunited with Minteh at Anfield.

Yesterday it was claimed that Newcastle would be open to listening to offers of around £40million for Minteh, which would be almost a £35million profit in a year and without ever having kicked a ball for Eddie Howe.

Now, though, Football Insider is claiming that it could take as little as £25million to take Minteh away from Tyneside.

So much salt required this story should come with a health warning

We were sceptical at £40million given his huge potential and the fact that he's not even played a minute of football for the club, but suddenly lopping £15million off the asking price overnight seems very strange.

Given the source, that being Football Insider, we have our pinches of salt at the ready with this one.

For £40million we wouldn't have been happy but we could see the logic. At £25milloin, while still a circa £10million profit (depending on your source for our purchase price which ranges from £5m-£7m) for someone with the potential Minteh has, it's a no from us, and hopefully a no from Newcastle United.
