Newcastle United have a few big decisions to make in terms of contracts before the end of this season.

Callum Wilson's deal is set to expire in the summer and a the big decision regarding that one is more whether the club tries to sell him in January or just to let him hobble off into the sunset in the summer.

A more pressing issue is the contract of Sean Longstaff whose place in the side has come sharply into focus recently.

Longstaff's contract is also up at the end of the season, but while he has often been a scapegoat for fans, Longstaff's contribution to the side cannot be overlooked. Indeed, Newcastle have not lost a game this season in which Sean Longstaff has started.

Sean Longstaff isn't fretting over his contract situation

Sean Longstaff isn't letting the contract situation bother him though, and he has told Newcastle World that he's taking things day by day.

“I want to be valued as a player, I want to be appreciated as a player and whether it’s here great. If it’s not here and it’s somewhere else, it’ll be somewhere else.

“In a way I live day to day, game to game and I just try and take in every game. I get to go to work every day and spend it with my best friends, I don’t know what’s coming ahead, I don’t know what’s coming down the line, I just try to embrace every day and enjoy every minute because ultimately it won’t last forever.”

Longstaff is heading towards 200 Premier League appearances

Longstaff recently passed the 150 Premier League appearances mark and is looking towards the 200 mile marker, but he's under no illusions right now that it may come while playing for another club.

“If it’s here it’s great. If it’s not, it’s not."

We're pretty confident that Longstaff will be offered a new deal. Eddie Howe adores him and, as we've said, he's become an overlooked, but extremely important part of the Newcastle team.
