Newcastle United have recently made a point of giving young players a chance in the first-team.
The prime example of that is Lewis Miley who, during last season's injury-hit campaign became a regular fixture in Eddie Howe's match-day squad.
Alex Murphy often finds himself on the bench when Howe has a few players missing and has, at times, made it on to the pitch.
In the summer it looked as though we'd be seeing plenty of exciting winger Trevan Sanusi this season after he impressed in pre-season friendlies, but he's yet to make it into a match-day squad for Newcastle's first team so far.
Sanusi isn't the only youngster on the verge of a first-team call-up either according to The Athletic's Chris Waugh in his weekly Q&A with fans.
Waugh was asked if there are any young players pushing for a place in the first-team and while Waugh mentioned Sanusi, he also offered up a different name.
"Trevan Sanusi, 17, has been exciting at under-21 level, although he remains raw and needs time to develop before he is likely to be trusted at Premier League level. But Anthony Munda, the 18-year-old central midfielder, has also impressed coaching staff.
"He was called up to first-team training ahead of last month’s match against Brighton, and his development is being monitored closely. Given Lewis Miley is now back from injury, Newcastle have depth in midfield, so Munda’s opportunities are likely to be severely limited for now, but first-team coaches like what they are seeing."
As Waugh points out, the fact that Newcastle are pretty solid in midfield, it will certainly make things much harder for Munda to push his way into the side. It was a perfect recipe for Lewis Miley last season with so many injuries and Sandro Tonali's ban.
Even though we'd love to see the next young player break into the first-team, we'd rather not have to have an injury crisis to make it happen, so patience is a virtue with this one.
Maybe if we pick up an 'easy' FA Cup draw we can give the kids a chance. We'd definitely love to see Trevan Sanusi in action again.
