Newcastle United wasted the summer transfer window being played for fools by Crystal Palace co-owner Steve Parish over negotiations for England centre-back Marc Guehi.
It seemed to be a case of Guehi or bust for Newcastle in the last transfer window, and bust it was as the Magpies failed to get their man despite allegedly offering £70 million.
Since the season has begun Crystal Palace who ended last season as one of the Premier League's in-form sides, have been nothing short of abysmal so far, and with that, Marc Guehi has been poor too.
With all that in mind, and the fact that he'll knocked another six months off his current contract, there's a high expectation that the asking price for Guehi will have dropped significantly.
The question is ... does anybody want him now? Reports keep suggesting that Newcastle remain interested, even The Chronicle has hinted at that today, but we're hoping that we steer well clear.
A lot of fans don't believe Guehi is good enough for Newcastle anyway, and while I don't necessarily subscribe to that way of thinking - I think we could get the best out of him - I wouldn't give Crystal Palace the money after their shenanigans this summer.
Operating in bad faith for weeks knowing full well they weren't going to sell, why would we want to enter negotiations with them again after that? We appreciate that it's business and not personal and the club aren't likely to factor in the spite, but fans will.
His form this season has exposed him slightly too and Palace would be crazy to think they could make similar demands as they did in the summer for a player who has been consistently poor.
He still has the English tax going for him so he would likely still cost around £40 million, but for that we could definitely get someone better from the continent. We paid less than £40 million for Sven Botman - we can do that again.
Bottom line - stay away. Crystal Palace made their bed now they must lie in it as far as we're concerned. We're sure someone will pick up Marc Guehi, but we're over it.
