Newcastle United are set to sign a striker to support Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak.
It was the one position we at NUFCfeed said that we absolutely needed alongside a right winger, and while we'd have preferred someone a bit more first-team ready, we do actually think this is a good move by the club.
Callum Wilson is already set to miss the start of the season through injury, but that injury is also keeping him out of a potential summer move which means we'll likely keep him until next summer when his contract expires, or unless a bid comes in for him in January.
In either case, having another first-team-ready striker on the books now doesn't make sense as we'd just end up with a frustrated player not getting enough minutes.
It makes sense, therefore, that the club have opted for a young talent who has a bit of Premier League experience but won't be expecting to be on the field week in and week out.
Newcastle are now working out the 'finer details' on a deal for Sheffield United forward William Osula who will cost an initial £10 million plus £5 million in add-ons.
While we were initially underwhelmed, the more we've seen of Osula, the more we understand why we're keen to bring him to the club.
Danish U21 international, Osula turns 21 on Sunday so has plenty left to learn and plenty of room to grow, something that we're sure Eddie Howe will love.
While he is a bit raw, you can see he is strong, tenacious and good with the ball at his feet. A clip circulated on X last night of a goal he recently scored against York in a pre-season friendly which has Newcastle fans already comparing him to Alexander Isak.
He obviously still has a long way to go before he can be put alongside Isak, but the potential is there and for £15 million, we could have a bargain on our hands.
