Newcastle United receive Bruno Barcelona boost as Brazilian due to return to club on Monday
Newcastle United have had to navigate a tricky run of fixtures without arguably their most influential player available to them.
Bruno Guimaraes picked up a hamstring injury in the game against Tottenham Hotspur and has since returned to Brazil to undergo rehabilitation.
The original assessment put the Toon captain out of action for up to 10 weeks, with a return date sometime in April the most likely outcome.
While that hasn't changed, Eddie Howe did confirm that the 28-year-old is returning to Newcastle next week to continue his recovery.
Eddie Howe confirmed that Bruno Guimaraes will return to Newcastle on Monday
Speaking to the media this morning ahead of Newcastle's trip to Chelsea tomorrow, Eddie Howe confirmed that Bruno Guimaraes will return to Newcastle on Monday and has told him that he wants to travel with the team to Barcelona for the second leg to cheer on the lads.
“He's back on Monday. I think his plan, typical Bruno, he wants to come to Barcelona and support the team.
“We hope that he won't be too far away. Once he's back with us, we'll obviously have to assess him.
“I know he's been working incredibly hard on his rehab with the Brazilian national team, physios and doctors.
“So, I think he'll be in a good place. Yes, and he's such a big player. So, I'd love to think by the time the international break has ended, he'll be back fit and available.”
Brazilian Bruno's Big Barcelona Boost
Even though Bruno won't be involved in the game, we imagine his presence will be a big boost to the lads, similar to how Kieran Trippier rocked up to every game on crutches when he picked up his injury shortly after his arrival in 2022.
Having a leader there can make all the difference, and Newcastle will take any positives they can to help them put the disappointment of that last-minute penalty behind them and seek revenge.
We can't wait until he's back on the pitch, but we'll take this as a small win for now.
