A date for the hearing which will decide the fate of the proposed St James' STACK has been set for next week.

According to journalist Joel Bland the hearing for the St James' STACK proposal has been set for next Tuesday.

Bland's post on X notes that the main opposition will come from Northumbria Police and some local councillors. The Police are concerned that the proposed venue will be 'a major drinking venue' - you can tell that's where detectives work, can't you? While the councillors are voicing concerns that it may be too loud for local residents.

The noise issues I can understand, but the drinking one makes no sense. The entire city is famed for its nightlife, and that nightlife isn't made up of octogenarians on a mad sugar rush after a mental night on the afternoon tea.

I'm not being naive, I know it will have an effect on policing, especially in its opening months as it's all new and people flock there to see what's going on, but it will eventually level out and it will return to normal.

The STACK is an integral part of the proposed Newcastle United Fan Zone being created by Sela.

Joel Bland did follow up his post with another one that suggests confidence is high that the proposal will be given the go-ahead.

Hopefully next Tuesday we will be hearing positive news about the proposed Fan Zone and can start looking forward to gannin' radge in a shipping container.
