Keeping hold of big stars is always going to be a struggle for any side, and Newcastle United have several players who are coveted by other clubs.

Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon are the key figures who are often linked with moves elsewhere, but it's not just the big boys who are being eyed.

Beyond the big stars, Newcastle have several key players who they will want to retain going forward, however, for some, that may be easier said than done thanks to their position in the pecking order.

Newcastle currently has arguably the best midfield trio in the Premier League which means any other midfielders on the books will have to patiently await their turn. This is what could leave them vulnerable in the summer.

Premier League and Bundesliga sides are keen on Lewis Miley

One Newcastle player who is not getting the minutes he perhaps deserves right now is youngster Lewis Miley, who made a sensational breakthrough last season only to find himself rarely used during this campaign.

Indeed, in the last couple of matches, Jason Tindall has brought on Sean Longstaff over Lewis Miley, much to fans' bemusement. And now, Fabrizio Romano is claiming that there are clubs circling the academy product.

"Several clubs are following the situation of Lewis Miley ahead of the summer transfer window.

"Premier League and Bundesliga clubs hold strong interest in the midfielder who may find it difficult for game time behind such a strong midfield three at Newcastle."

Miley isn't going anywhere as long as Newcastle are in Europe

Common sense will tell Newcastle fans not to panic, though, as given Newcastle United will be playing in some form of European competition next season, the Magpies need to retain homegrown players.

Sean Longstaff is a strong contender to be a player who leaves the club in the summer, which would be a hit to those homegrown numbers. We can't afford to lose two in reality.

Lewis Miley has an outstanding future ahead of him, with Danny Murphy hailing him as a 'wonderful' player, and Newcastle are well aware of his potential.

We just don't see the club parting ways with him, no matter how tempting the offer.
