Newcastle United chiefs confident they can make Stadium plans work if club opts to stay at St James' Park
We're almost a third of the way through 2025, and we've still not been given any real look at what Newcastle United's plans are for St James' Park.
Fans are being drip-fed information in the form of 'leaks', which are debunked almost as quickly as they appear. All we know is that there are two options on the table, remaining at and transforming St James' Park, or building an entirely new state-of-the-art stadium on the land at Leazes Park.
We've been led to believe that a capacity of around 65,000 is the target for a new build, but now The Chronicle are reporting that the club are confident they can get St James' Park up to 63,000 if we opt to stay put.
Last year, the club announced that we'd hear something in the first quarter of 2025, but that has now been pushed back to 'nearer the end of the season', which I would suggest is NOW. Frankly, we're getting tired of waiting now and just want someone to make a decision.
Newcastle United have a good plan to remain at St James' Park if the new stadium idea doesn't go ahead
The board have seen video presentations of what a new stadium and a revamped St James' Park would look like, and now we're just waiting for those to be released to the public.
The club had finally managed to get fans on board with the idea of leaving St James' Park behind after meeting massive resistance initially, but now it's being reported that they are more than happy to stay at St James' Park, too.
If the board can't seem to settle on an option, asking the fans to help out is just going to backfire; someone needs to just make the call on behalf of everyone.
The Newcastle board needs to just make the call, we'll get over it
One look at social media will show you fans can't agree on anything where the club is concerned, putting it to the fanbase is a disaster waiting to happen and will just cloud the issue.
The board are paid extortionate amounts of money to make these decisions and to live with the backlash, it's time to step up and just tell us what's happening.
Whichever decision is made, fans will soon forget about how they felt at the time it was announced as we move on to fighting about whether Will Osula should be getting more minutes, or which Anthony Gordon haircut was the worst.
