Newcastle United had scouts in the stands as Tottenham Hotspur beat Eintracht Frankfurt in Europa League

Ange Postecoglou saved his job for another week or two after guiding Tottenham Hotspur into the Europa League semi-final on Thursday night at the expense of Eintracht Frankfurt.

While Tottenham progressed, Newcastle United, Arsenal and Liverpool had scouts in the stands watching over a familiar face to Newcastle fans.

With all three clubs keen to add more firepower this summer, TBR Football are reporting that they all had scouts there watching over Hugo Ekitike.

The former PSG man has been a long-term Newcastle target, predating his move to the French capital.

Newcastle already missed out Hugo Ekitike once

Newcastle thought they had a deal wrapped up to bring the then 19-year-old from Reims, but Paris Saint-Germain swooped in last minute to take him off our hands. A move they soon regretted after poor performances and an even poorer attitude left PSG looking to offload the forward as soon as possible.

Moving to Frankfurt on loan, Ekitike did enough to earn himself a permanent switch to the German side, and since then, he's matured into a top striker.

Newcastle clearly saw the potential in him early, but some poor decisions derailed his career. Now 22 and in fine form, Newcastle are once again in the mix for his signature it seems.

Can Newcastle United fans forgive Hugo Ekitike?

If the scouts only had last night's game to go by, they may be leaving this one well alone as the Frenchman was fairly anonymous against Spurs, managing just two shots.

However, Newcastle have never really taken their eye off Ekitike and know there's a player in there.

The biggest question facing Newcastle fans is, can we forgive him for the way things went down in 2022 when he turned his back on us to move to PSG? Bearing in mind his antics led us to Alexander Isak. I'm sure a few goals would help us forget pretty quickly.
