Sven Botman is close to a return from injury as Jason Tindall outlines chances of return against Aston Villa

Sven Botman hasn't had a lot of luck with his knees over the last couple of years after undergoing ACL surgery last year, only for his other knee to require surgery shortly after his comeback this season.

Newcastle United paid £35 million for Sven Botman from Lille in 2022, and his early performances gave the Toon Army a good glimpse of what a powerhouse he could become.

Botman is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in Europe, but injuries have scuppered his rise to the top.

The Dutchman has been called up for the Netherlands senior international side only for injuries to prevent him from making his debut.

Jason Tindall says Sven Botman is ahead of schedule with his recovery

The 25-year-old has been absent since mid-February after having to have a floating bone removed from his kneecap, but as with his ACL surgery, it seems he is making a rapid recovery and could soon be back in contention.

Jason Tindall was asked in his pre-match press conference on Friday morning whether he'd be available for tomorrow's game against Aston Villa.

"Certainly not this weekend but, as I said, he's ahead of schedule. He's on the grass and joining in some aspects of training. Maybe next weekend he could be in contention for selection"

We'd have him wait the rest of the season out to make sure he's ready for a big campaign next season

Hopefully, Newcastle don't rush him back too soon just because he looks ready to go, as it took just six games to break him again this season.

We've coped without him all season, so we can probably do so for the rest of the campaign.

Let the guy rest up and fully recover, ready to play every game next season.
