Newcastle United are hoping to steal a march on a few top Premier League rivals for the signature of 18-year-old Juventus defender currently on loan at Roma.

It was revealed recently that Newcastle were keen on Juventus defender Dean Huijsen, and now an update from Gazzetta dello Sport (via Team Talk) has suggested that the Magpies face serious competition from Liverpool and Manchester United.

Although they claim that Newcastle are pushing hardest to sign the versatile youngster and could beat the "big six" clubs to his signature. It would be a huge statement to beat the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Man United to such an exciting prospect.

Juventus have set their price for Huijsen and in the grand scheme of things, they aren't asking much.

Huijsen could cost Newcastle less than £30million

Team Talk reports that The Old Lady have set their price at €30m (£25.6m) for Huijsen, but also claim that Newcastle will try and negotiate for a lower fee.

Given that Huijsen is only 18 and is already lighting up Serie A while on loan at Roma, the Dutch-born Spanish U21 international could prove to be a bargain even at full price.

He's appeared 13 times for Roma this season picking up two goals and assist while covering several positions - centre-back, centre-midfield and right-midfield.

There's so much to get excited about with this potential signing

That's the kind of versatility we're screaming out for at Newcastle. The more players we have who can cover several positions the better equipped we are in case of another spate of injuries.

We can't decide what excites us more about this one, the lad's potential, his versatility or the fact that we could really stick it to three of the "big six" by signing him.

Make it happen, Eddie.
