It's unlikely to have escaped your notice that England is pretty much a hellscape the minute with rioters posing as protestors arranging "protests" up and down the country.

One such "protest" is scheduled to take place around Grey's Monument on Saturday afternoon.

This will coincide with The Sela Weekender's games on Saturday which see Newcastle United Women taking on AC Milan before Newcastle United men's team take on Stade Brestois.

It's a couple of friendly games aimed with the intention of a family-friendly good time, but now, with the reports of protests, many people are naturally worried about attending, especially parents looking to take their kids.

Don't let the thugs win!

We've heard many supporters say they probably won't be attending now for fears for the safety of their kids and that's absolutely tragic.

Many people had questioned if the event would still go ahead as planned and today the club has put out an announcement confirming that The Sela Weekender will still go ahead.

"The safety and security of supporters, staff and everyone who engages with the club is of paramount importance and the club’s usual comprehensive matchday planning is in place in readiness for three fixtures across Friday and Saturday.

"The club is continuing to work closely with its independent Safety Advisory Group and key stakeholders, including Northumbria Police and local authorities, ensuring we are fully prepared to welcome fans into the stadium.

"Following reports of planned protest on Saturday 10th August, the club has been assured that mitigation measures are in place to ensure everyone can enjoy the city and Sela Weekender safely."

Extra security measures will be in place to protect you and your family in and around St James' Park.

However, it's worth planning your route to the ground to avoid Grey's Monument area just to be extra safe.

If you are attending the matches over the weekend, it's definitely worth reading through the statement and advice put out by the club on their website.
