Newcastle United fans up and down the country are wearing holes in their living room carpets as they pace up and down waiting for some sort of movement in the transfer window.

The Magpies have not signed a first-team player since Odysseas Vlachodimos came out of nowhere in a deal that we'd rather not have done.

Fans would rightly say that the club needs a centre-back, a right winger and a backup striker to put their minds at ease before the Premier League campaign gets underway in just over two weeks.

Every time it looks like Newcastle are getting close to a signing, a contrary report surfaces that suggests that movement is miles away and it's those reports that are so far the most accurate.

Newcastle are closing in on a £15m signing

However, we could be about to have a breakthrough in terms of an incoming player.

Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has posted on X that Newcastle are in advanced discussions with Sheffield United over Will Osula which would see the Magpies parting with £10 million plys another £5 million in add-ons.

Newcastle were credited with an interest in the 20-year-old last week as a potential option to back up Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak.

Osula does not count as two signings!

The thing that has us worried in the office is Downie saying how Osula can play striker or winger. He has played left wing, so hopefully, the club won't be passing his signing off as someone who can fill both roles.

We're struggling enough to get excited by Osula's potential arrival. He hardly set the world on fire at Sheffield United last season, with zero goals in 21 Premier League games.

Granted, he's young and has plenty of room to grow, but this isn't the signing that will lift that cloud hanging over the club.

On the positive side, if this does go through, at least we aren't heading into the season with only two strikers and for that, we are grateful.
