The Anthony Gordon to Liverpool rumours won't go away with Newcastle United fans simply waiting for Gordon to return to the squad.

Despite the growing frustrations around Newcastle and their lack of transfer activity, it does seem that most fans are pretty calm when it comes to the future of Anthony Gordon.

After being offered up on a plate to Liverpool during the PSR deadline day scramble, the messaging has been clear from inside St James' Park that Gordon, like Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, is crucial to the future of the football club and will not be sold.

Most fans seem to have accepted that now, but the media just won't let it lie.

Newcastle are keen on Joe Gomez

Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool definitely still appreciate Gordon

Fans from Newcastle and Liverpool have still been bombarding Fabrizio Romano with questions about the Liverpool links, which the transfer journalist answered in his Daily Briefing.

“I’m receiving lots of questions on Anthony Gordon guys, but I was only told that Liverpool discussed several potential swap deals in June, not the specific values that have been mentioned elsewhere in the media.

“I don’t have confirmation on the numbers being talked about but, for sure Liverpool wanted Gordon and they remain interested in the player, considering him an excellent winger,” Romano adds.

“Let’s see what Liverpool will do this month, but appreciation for Gordon remains; I’m 100% sure of that.”

Newcastle want Joe Gomez

The current story is that Newcastle wanted Joe Gomez as part of that deal back in June and are still keen on the 27-year-old England defender.

We're not putting much stock in those rumours for now given how closely it is linked to the Gordon move. We don't see Liverpool letting us have Gomez if we won't let them have Gordon.

Gordon is due to return to training next week when the rest of the squad gets back from Japan.
