It is universally accepted that not everybody agrees when it comes to football, it's what makes following the game so exciting, but this latest take on Newcastle United's potential huge signing takes a lot of mental gymnastics to get your head around.

There probably are Newcastle fans out there who are unmoved by the idea of Marc Guehi joining this summer. We can't imagine there'd be many, but we're sure they're out there.

As things stand, Newcastle are on course to sign arguably England's best central defender for around £65 million. Okay, it's not an insignificant amount of money, but it is a significant signing.

Anyone who watched Guehi in an England shirt at Euro 2024 will tell you just how class this lad is and how easily he will slot into the Newcastle United back four. Well, almost anyone that is.

Don Hutchison is not convinced by Marc Guehi

Former Sunderland player Don Hutchison, who identifies as a Newcastle supporter, has questioned the club's decision to go for Guehi on ESPN Sports and when asked if he was excited about Marc Guehi going to Newcastle he said:

“Not really.

“Not because the kid is not a good player. They signed Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer, and they’ve got Sven Botman and Fabian Schar. That’s a lot of money to try and spend on what is potentially a good player, but he might not get in the team.”

Hutchison doesn't think Guehi gets in the team ahead of Schar

Presenter Dan Thomas made the point that Guehi would surely start if Newcastle were spending so much money on him but Hutchison wasn't having it.

“Ahead of Botman and Schar? No!

“I don’t think it’s a particularly smart signing. I think you could spend that money elsewhere.”

We're sure he'll change his tune when Guehi and Botman form a brick-wall partnership at the back in the second half of the season when Botman is back to full fitness.
