The summer transfer window is creeping ever closer, and Newcastle United are gearing up for a busy off-season with several incoming transfers required to ready the squad for what we hope will be another Champions League campaign.

Regardless of what happens for the rest of the season, Newcastle will play in Europe next season, but Champions League qualification will open up more doors for the club in terms of who they can sign.

Similarly, qualifying for the Champions League will go a long way to appeasing our existing squad, particularly the big players with big ambitions.

While Newcastle have no intention of selling any big players, knowing that Newcastle will be in the Champions League next season will mean our big stars are less likely to be eyeing a move.

Fabrizio Romano doesn't see Sandro Tonali leaving the Magpies

Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali are two players whose futures have often been connected to Champions League qualification, the former more so than the latter, but now Fabrizio Romano has added his take on the Sandro Tonali situation.

"⚪️⚫️ Sandro Tonali has scored 6 goals this season for Newcastle, one more key goal today…

…as #NUFC see him as crucial part of the squad also for the future despite links."

Sandro Tonali has never hinted at wanting to leave Newcastle

Italian media have been pushing nonsense since he signed for Newcastle that Sandro Tonali was destined for a quick return home, and despite the player himself repeatedly saying he's happy on Tyneside, the rumours won't go away.

So it's great to see an actual Italian journalist rubbish these claims. We never actually believed them, but given how prevalent the rumours are, we'll gladly accept every new bit of information that suggests Tonali is here to stay.

Of course, Tonali joking that he needs another five years at Newcastle to understand Geordie definitely helps.
