The world of football transfers is rarely dull as Newcastle United fans trawling for news on incomings will have no doubt discovered this morning.

Newcastle fans checking the internet this morning may possibly have come across two stories around the club's pursuit of Italy international centre-back Federico Gatti and noticed that the two reports say very different things.

First up there was a report from Italian site Tuttosport relayed by Inside Futbol which basically put an end to Newcastle's chances of landing the Juventus star, while a few minutes later, a report has appeared from Newcastle World saying quite the opposite.

The two reports agree that Newcastle have an interest in Gatti and both agree that Juventus are in no rush to sell, but the meat on those bones is very different.

Federico Gatti: Will he stay or will he go?

There are conflicting reports around Federico Gatti's future

Tuttosport believe that Newcastle made contact over a move for Gatti, but after the defender received assurances from Thiago Motta that he is part of his first-team plans, Gatti rebuffed the Magpies in favour of staying put.

Whereas Newcastle World will have you believe that despite Juventus not needing to sell due to Gatti having four years remaining on his contract, they would be open to cashing in on him if the right bid came long.

Both stories can't be true, that simply doesn't work. Or does it?

Transfers are never as straightforward as they look

How many times have we seen it where a player is loved by the manager and is seemingly part of their plans only for the board to intervene and accept an offer that they felt was too good to turn down?

The reality here could be that Motta wants to keep hold of Gatti, who would be happy to stay, but the Juventus board might see the money as too good to refuse and take over the negotiations.

The player can of course dig his heels in much like Miguel Almiron seems to be doing at Newcastle, but money always wins in football.

As for where we think the truth lies with this one, we're leaning more towards the reports coming out of Italy, especially in the wake of the news around Malick Thiaw this morning.
