Eddie Howe didn't quite know what to make of the 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers yesterday.

Newcastle United twice lost a lead over Wolves in an end-to-end contest in the pouring rain at Molineux.

Callum Wilson bagged two goals making him Newcastle's outright third-highest Premier League goal scorer and also setting him further adrift at the top of the minutes per goal chart for the season ahead of Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland.

Wilson's second goal was a gift gratefully received

Wilson's second goal was highly controversial after Newcastle were awarded the softest of penalties, but you won't hear the Toon Army complain.

After the game Eddie Howe spoke to NUFC TV where he was asked whether it was a point gained or two points dropped.

“Can it be both? I don’t quite know, I’m still quite emotional from the game. I’m very, very proud of the players and the effort they gave to that game.

“I thought we played well, I thought they played well as well, I thought it was a really good game between two good teams.

“We got the lead and that’s why it’s a bit frustrating that we didn’t get the three points, but I can’t praise the players enough.”

Fans may feel it was two points dropped but it's not the end of the world

At the end of the day, a point is better than nothing at all and it keeps us within touching distance of that top four.

We said it yesterday, the second half of the season is where we'll come good with players back from injury and maybe an extra player or two through the door in January.

Newcastle are being tested right now with injuries and other things, but if we come through this patch okay then there's nothing we can't achieve.
