Despite the fact that Newcastle United won on Sunday after a really intense 90 minutes against Nottingham Forest, many Newcastle fans were very flat after the game.

The Magpies had just won one of their biggest games of the season, but the second-half performance by the team was so poor that it sucked all the wind out of Geordie sails.

As such, we're surprised that Alan Shearer had it in him to give any Newcastle players credit in his selection for Team of the Week for the Premier League.

In the three Team of the Week selections we look at, Newcastle have been represented in each, although our personal pick, Lewis Hall, only appeared in the WhoScored? team, which makes sense as it's purely stats-based, and his numbers were outstanding.

Alan Shearer recognised the milestone reached by Alexander Isak on Sunday

WhoScored? chose two Newcastle players, the other being Alexander Isak, and that's who Alan Shearer has picked to represent his former club in his Team of the Week.

Alexander Isak (Newcastle)

"Another two goals. He's now got 50 in the league, in only 76 games. His latest strikes proved to be vital for Newcastle in the end, given Nottingham Forest fought back to make it 4-3."

Two goals in a game is always going to give a striker a fair shot of being in the Team of the Week shout, and the fact that Isak's goals took him to such an impressive milestone likely factored into Shearer's thinking.

Alexander Isak is opening a gap as Newcastle's second-placed top scorer in the Premier League

Isak is now behind only Alan Shearer in Newcastle's Premier League top scorer list, with Callum Wilson now three goals behind the Swede.

He's coming for you, Al!

Let's be honest, nobody is catching Shearer. Unless ... Can we convince Isak to spend his entire career here to try?
