Yasir Al-Rumayyan recently held a talk in which he spoke about the PIF's intentions to cut fundings into overseas investments which put Newcastle United fans on high alert.
The club chairman was speaking at the Future Investment Initiative where he talked about how the PIF will be redirecting their focus back to investments closer to home after relying heavily on foreign investments.
There's a large section of Newcastle fans who have been questioning the PIF's commitment to the project lately and wondering if all of the financial restrictions that have popped up since the takeover have dulled their interest as they can no longer simply buy their way to success.
That was never really the plan, however, and it has always been seen as a long-term investment and plan.
The Chronicle have also helped to put minds at ease by saying that the cuts that Yasir Al-Rumayyan talked about will not affect Newcastle United.
"So initially we had less than 2 per cent of international investments. Most of the investments were developmental projects within the Saudi economy.
"But then it increased from two per cent all the way up to 30 per cent. Now our target is to bring it down to a range between 18 to 20 per cent."
There was no specific mention one way or another of Newcastle United, but the message is that the PIF's commitment to Newcastle United is stronger than ever.
We're waiting to find out what the plan is with St James' Park, which we should hear more about early in 2025, and I guess we'll see what January brings in terms of investment into players.
We tend to get a bit carried away when things aren't perceived to be moving as quickly as we'd perhaps expected, but the deal with Adidas, the upgrades to the stadium that have already taken place including the revamped club shop that opens today (Wednesday), the fan zone and the work alongside SELA with the events and initiatives they have contributed to, there's still a lot going on.
Granted, the stadium news has been slower than we'd have liked and we are still without a training ground, training kit and stadium sponsor - and these are the main things which are making fans believe they've lost interest, but we have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. Only time will tell.
