A right-sided centre-back is still a requirement for Newcastle United to build up depth in their squad after failing to land Marc Guehi in the summer.

Crystal Palace strung Newcastle along for as long as they could in the summer with hopes that they would eventually land Eddie Howe's number one target Marc Guehi.

Every time the Magpies got within touching distance of getting the deal done, Steve Parish would move the goalposts before eventually giving Newcastle no choice but to walk away.

Unfortunately, they took that decision far too late in the window and no alternative could be sourced before the deadline.

Loic Bade is now on Newcastle's radar

Newcastle want Olympic silver medalist Loic Bade from Sevilla

After a start to the season which has seen Newcastle struggle for creativity in the final third, the priorities have now shifted to finding a right winger who can unlock defences and get Newcastle back on the goal trail.

However, the need for a centre-back remains and The Boot Room are reporting that Newcastle may have found their Guehi alternative in a former Nottingham Forest player now plying his trade in Spain for Sevilla.

French Olympic silver medalist Loic Bade is attracting interest from Newcastle and it's believed Sevilla could be willing to strike a deal for less than his £50 million release clause.

Newcastle will face strong competition for Loic Bade

It won't just be a straight shot for Newcastle, however, as Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Aston Villa are also keen on the 24-year-old.

With Newcastle's PSR issues, they will have to tread carefully in January so they may not have the financial headroom to bring in a right-winger and a centre-back, so they will have to hope that either they can get both positions relatively cheaply, or that no other club makes a move for Bade in January and Newcastle go for him in the summer.

Newcastle could, of course, sell a couple of players on to fund a spending spree in January, but they've struggled to offload players recently. Also, there's a feeling that the club would prefer to avoid doing too much business in January as it's a bad window to operate in with inflated prices and clubs less willing to deal.
