Erik ten Hag became the first Premier League manager to be canned this season much to the disappointment of all non-Manchester United fans.
Newcastle United boss had been linked to the job in the build up to Ten Hag's dismissal with some people even suggesting that Howe would be keen to take up the job if he was asked.
That never really made sense to us given that he'd be working with Dan Ashworth again and that didn't seem to go too well for him last time.
However, there are those who believe that Eddie Howe may not have a choice in the matter as to whether he stays at Newcastle United or goes elsewhere.
The first manager to be sacked can often open the floodgates for a lot of managerial changes as manager-less clubs will poach from other teams, or other clubs may just feel emboldened by not being the first to wield the axe.
Newcastle have made, let's say, an indifferent start to the new campaign and find themselves in the lower half of the table which some feel should be a cause for concern for Eddie Howe.
We don't think Eddie has any reason to worry just yet, but CBS Sports have produced an article which includes Howe in the sack race.
Thankfully, they believe Eddie is safe, but the fact that he's included in the list at all is very telling.
"Likely safe: Eddie Howe, Newcastle United
"After coming under new ownership, ambitions were high for Newcastle United with cash being splashed and the club qualifying for the Champions League. But then they disappointed, crashing out in the group stage last season and also failed to finish in the top four for consecutive seasons. Behind another sluggish start, the Magpies have already slipped to 12th. They may be six points off the pace of Aston Villa in fourth but passing so many teams is easier said than done.
"With the injuries and suspensions that Newcastle have had to deal with, there's a chance that a move wouldn't be made about Howe until the end of the season, but scoring a goal per game despite having strong attackers in Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak, something needs to change. If it doesn't happen soon, Newcastle again look set to miss out on Europe, which may prompt change."
Again, we feel it's far too soon to be thinking about such things, but we do understand why he would feature on the list right now given the recent run of results, and as CBS says, the end of the season could be when the board strike.
