Newcastle United sailed into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals at the expense of Chelsea on Wednesday night.
Eddie Howe made a few changes to his lineup to the one that faced Chelsea on Sunday, whereas Chelsea fielded an entirely different XI which appeared to be made up almost exclusively of players once linked to Newcastle United.
A goal by Alexander Isak and an own goal by Axel Disasi were enough to send the Magpies into the quarter-finals, the stage at which they exited the competition last season at the hands of tonight's opponents.
The Magpies had to wait until the 8:15pm kick-off between Manchester City and Tottenham finished before the draw was made with only Premier League teams going into the bowl.
Jamie Redknapp was in charge of drawing the home sides with Izzy Christiansen pulling out the away sides and it was Mr Redknapp who pulled out ball number six which was assigned to Newcastle.
A second consecutive home draw for the Magpies and they will face Brentford.
It's still a tricky tie but given that there were some top teams still in the draw we probably got one of the best possible outcomes.
The fixtures are expected to be played week commencing 16th December.
With a bit of luck it could be the last time Bryan Mbeumo plays at St James' Park as an opposition player with the Magpies looking to sign the winger in January.
Interestingly, Newcastle face Brentford away on the weekend before the Carabao Cup fixtures are set to be played (14th December) as was the case with Chelsea.
