The ongoing Newcastle United goalkeeper plot thickens.

With Eddie Howe looking to rejig his choices for goalkeeper next season, albeit likely keeping Nick Pope as first-choice, the Toon gaffer will at least need to find a replacement for Loris Karius and possibly even one for Martin Dubravka.

While the rumours around Aaron Ramsdale and Giorgi Mamardashvili take more twists and turns than the new ride at Alton Towers, another name has entered the frame via reports in Spain. (Did that rhyme? Am I a poet now?)

Relevo (via Football Espana on X) has suggested that the Magpies may now be looking at 22-year-old Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.

Newcastle scouted Jorgensen in April

With Valencia playing hardball over Mamardashvili's price and Arsenal still unsure how much they want for Ramsdale, it seems Villarreal would accept offers of around €20million (£17million) for Jorgensen.

This isn't the first time Jorgensen's name has been mentioned alongside Newcastle's with reports in April suggesting Newcastle had sent scouts to watch him in action after impressing in La Liga this season.

When the Magpies sent their scouts to watch over Jorgensen, he was currently Top of the Stops with the most saves in La Liga at the time.

Going for Jorgensen could save Newcastle a fortune

Born in Sweden but representing Denmark at international level, Jorgensen looks like he'd be a good replacement for Karius, or even Dubravka. He could save us around £16million if we were to go for him over Mamardashvili.

At least one of the 'keepers Newcastle bring in this summer is likely to be young and one for the future, but at the moment we appear to be looking at young goalkeepers who are used to being first choice, and convincing them to drop to back-up could prove tricky.

As we said before, this goalkeeper situation looks like it's going to drag on for a while yet, so get comfortable.
