Newcastle United look set to equal their record incoming transfer fee if Elliot Anderson completes his move to Nottingham Forest.

Elliot Anderson looks set to join Premier League side Nottingham Forest as Newcastle look to avoid a potential points deduction for breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules.

With Yankuba Minteh heading to Brighton for £33million it was believed that Newcastle were still short of plugging that PSR gap with figures between £7million-£10million being bandied around on social media.

That, of course, had the doom-mongers amongst the fanbase convinced that Anderson would be heading to Forest for just £10million.

Newcastle are set to bag £35million for Elliot Anderson

In fairness, given how badly Newcastle needed the quick sale and how Nottingham Forest are supposedly in the same boat and have no money, it's easy to see why £10million was believable.

In fact, we even said this morning that we only expected to get £15million or so for him, but Sky Sports' Keith Downie has now said that it could be more like £35million.

That would equal Newcastle's highest-ever fee received which was, of course, when we sold Andy Carroll to Liverpool. It's a bit ironic that once again we're selling an academy graduate to a Premier League rival for some quick cash.

Newcastle will likely buy a Forest player as part of a quasi-swap deal

As we mentioned, Forest are in a similar position of needing money, so it would make sense that this could lead to a quasi-swap deal with Craig Hope building on Keith Downie's post by adding that he feels a player will come the other way.

Yesterday it seemed like it would be Anthony Elanga, but Newcastle are also keen on Morgan Gibbs-White and Brazilian defender Murillo .

We'd take any or all of the above, please.
