Newcastle United spent far too long messing about trying to sign one particular player this summer ultimately leading to a very disappointing transfer window.
The Magpies were determined to land Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi with Eddie Howe reportedly telling Paul Mitchell to bring him Guehi and nobody else matters.
Negotiations with Crystal Palace dragged on for about a month with Palace co-owner Steve Parish constantly moving the goalposts for the deal whenever Newcastle got within touching distance.
All reports suggested that Guehi was keen on a move to Tyneside and that agreeing personal terms wouldn't have been a problem if they could just get past Parish's stupid games.
Ultimately the deal completely fell apart around transfer deadline day and Marc Guehi remained at Palace where he's gone on to have a very indifferent start to the season.
However, Football Insider has now reported that Guehi has told friends he wants to leave Crystal Palace.
Unfortunately, for Newcastle, it seems that the 24-year-old has his sights set on Liverpool and not Newcastle United.
Liverpool allegedly have an interest in Guehi and friends have said that he'd 'jump at the chance' to sign for Arne Slot's side saying that he wants to move to a 'bigger club' than Newcastle.
If this isn't the final straw in Newcastle's pursuit of Guehi then we really need to take a look at ourselves.
Steve Parish took us for mugs and now Guehi comes out with this 'bigger club' bit? Nah, mate. We'll look elsewhere, thanks.
That being said, though, it's worth noting where this story came from and taking it with much sodium chloride.
