Last year Newcastle United were said to be keeping a close eye on Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra who burst onto the scene in La Liga.

Javi Guerra came through Valencia's academy and has become a regular player for the Spanish side this season after making an impressive start to the season.

In September, Newcastle were reportedly sending scouts to keep an eye on the youngster and now it looks like they've been suitably impressed as reports have Newcastle and Juventus at the front of the queue for the 20-year-old.

Italian outlet TuttoJuve (via JuveFC.com) has Newcastle leading the race for his signature ahead of Juventus.

Javi Guerra has been watched by Newcastle since September

Guerra made an unbelievable start to the season in La Liga

Guerra made a lightning-quick start to the season scoring three times in his opening six games which caught the attention of Newcastle and Manchester United at the time, and now Juventus.

There was talk of Newcastle making their move in January, but as we know, that entire transfer window was a washout, for everyone.

But with the summer window edging closer, could Newcastle be looking to add another highly-rated youngster to their ranks?

Newcastle could get a good deal on Guerra

Guerra has played some part in all but two of Valencia's league games this season notching four goals and an assist along the way.

He also made his Spain U21 debut in September and has since gone on to receive seven more caps at the Under 21 level.

Valencia could potentially have to sell players this summer as they look to balance their books, so a good deal could be done, but as yet no fee has been touted, however, Transfermarkt has his estimated value as €20million (£17million).
