Every summer there always seems to be a club following Newcastle United around copying off their transfer wish list.

Last summer it seemed that every player linked to Newcastle was also a target for Tottenham Hotspur. This year it appears that Chelsea have been copying Steve Nickson's homework as another player linked to the Magpies has now popped up on The Blues' radar.

Yesterday it was reported that Newcastle were keeping tabs on Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen and lo and behold, a report appears today saying that Chelsea are keen on the 22-year-old stopper.

Newcastle have a few goalkeepers on their radar at the moment with Giorgi Mamardashvili and Aaron Ramsdale high on the list and then Jorgensen and James Trafford also being considered.

Chelsea have joined Newcastle in their admiration of Filip Jorgensen

Spanish journalist Nacho Sanchis has reported that Chelsea and Newcastle are considering a move for Jorgensen who has a €40million (£34million) release clause in his Villarreal contract.

Despite his release clause, reports from Spain yesterday suggested that €20million (£17million) could seal the deal which makes Jorgensen a very attractive proposition given that Mamardashvili and Ramsdale would be likely to cost closer to the £34million mark.

Jorgensen has been in stunning form in La Liga this season so it is hardly surprising that Newcastle aren't the only Premier League club with an eye on the Danish youth international.

Loris Karius' departure was confirmed by the club today

Newcastle today confirmed what we've known for a while, that Loris Karius will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of next month meaning there's a goalkeeper spot needing to be filled.

It's also rumoured that Martin Dubravka is likely to be sold this summer meaning the Magpies will probably have to double dip in the GK pool this summer.

We love the idea of signing Jorgensen for the long-term future, it just depends whether he'd be willing to play second-fiddle to Nick Pope for a season or so, or prepared to push Popey for his number one spot after being first choice for Villarreal.
