Gareth Southgate hasn't included Newcastle players Nick Pope and Anthony Gordon in his 26-man squad for England's September international matches against Ukraine and Scotland.

Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson have both kept their places, however, despite the latter not having started in the league for Eddie Howe so far in this campaign. Here's the full squad courtesy of the England national teams' official X account:

The game against Ukraine is a UEFA European Qualifier that will be held in Wroclaw, Poland on Saturday the 9th of September, while the fixture against Scotland is dubbed a "150th Anniversary Heritage" friendly and is set to take place at Hampden Park on Tuesday the 12th of September.

It was thought Gordon might have a chance of a first selection following his starring role in England Under-21's European Championship win over the summer and because Southgate was at St. James' Park for the Liverpool game at the weekend, in which the winger starred.

Pope, meanwhile, has pretty much been a guaranteed choice as a backup to Jordan Pickford since he joined Newcastle from Burnley last summer. It's a surprise to see him left out now that he's fit again following finger surgery over the summer.

Only Eddie Nketiah of Arsenal and Levi Colwill of Chelsea have been named in the senior squad for the first time, while Jordan Henderson has retained his place despite his controversial move to Al-Ettifaq of the Saudi Pro League.
